The image is designed in a
powerful Macintosh computer using Adobe Photoshop and
Adobe Illustrator. A painting by Zalucha was scanned and
overlaid onto a template of a bus. Mockups were created
for presentation to the Transit and Parking Authority of
Madison.
Upon approval, the painting was
scanned using a large bed scanner at extremely high
resolution by Large Format Digital. The image is
transferred onto a heavy duty vinyl with an adhesive
back. Installation specialists were hired to adhere the
images to the buses. Because the buses were not to be
away from their routes, the installation on all four
buses was done in one weekend by "Touch of Perfection,
Scott Perme, owner.
The complete front of the
bus is one large decal. It is stretched across and
carefull trimmed out so that all areas are nicely
covered. Because the entire front is totally covered, no
painting was required on the bus.
Wheel wells, front door windows,
and lights are carefully trimmed out.
Brad and Scott, "Touch of
Perfection", get wrapped up in their work.
The wrap that goes over the
windows is of a special perforated vinyl that allows
paople inside the bus to see out, but those on the
outside can't see in. Madison Metro asked that a minimum
of the bus windows be obscured, so the "perf" was limited
to the capitol dome and surrounding flowers. This also
kept the costs down.
Twenty days after the approval of the Transit and
Parking Commission, Peggy Zalucha of Millennium
Murals, (far right), Jeff Rank, Troy
Mancusi, and Marty of
Large
Format Digital (ties) and Scott Perme
of Touch of Perfection (shorts) were present for the dedication of the
buses by Mayor Sue Baumann.
