Artists' Exchange Between
Wisconsin and Japan

In Fall of of 2000 the Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors Inc. hosted 18 prominent artists from Japan for a week long visit and exhibit.

The artists exchange was part of the Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors commemoration of its 100th anniversary.

Exchange
Eighteen Japanese artists and their families came to Madison for a stay of one week. They were here from October 25 - November 1. The programming for our Japanese visitors involved sharing the arts of Wisconsin with our guests and giving them the opportunity to share their art. This exchange was a rich opportunity to learn from each other and share the richness of our respective cultures. The artists from Japan took in the Elvehjem museum of art, Taliesen (the studio of Frank Lloyd Wright) the West Bend Museum of Art, the Milwaukee Art Museum as well as many galleries and artists' studios. Perhaps the greatest cultural exchange was interaction provided by artists staying in the homes of other artists.

Exhibit October 14th through November 11th, 2000
The highlight of this exchange was an exhibit at the Memorial Union featuring the art of WP&S members and the art of our Japanese guests. This exhibit was on display from October 14th through November 11th, 2000.
