A native Western New Yorker and a graduate
of Buffalo State College, my art is concentrated right now in the
gardens of this area, especially the Niagara Falls School of horticulture
where I receive inspiration for the floral paintings. My still life
paintings are assembled from generations of family and friends clothing
and objects which speak to me.
Charles Hawthorne said that drawing
is not the basis of art, color is. Although I don't completely
agree with this statement, I do consider myself a colorist. The
earlier still life paintings of personal objects are color saturated
and viewed from a middle distance. The most recent series of works,
including the Material Pleasures paintings are explorations in
light and color as well as simplicity. Working with white on white
has pushed me to find color in all the reflections and shadows
of the objects.
Objects designed with movement and bathed
in light describe my work at this time.
